Highline Women meet at Greenwood Community Church, 5600 E. Belleview Ave. for Bible Study each Wednesday morning at 9:15.

The course is taught by Kay Morrison beginning September 14th and concludes April 25th. The study will look at the lives of 10 ancestors in the foundation of our faith. All of them will teach us how to live lives of faith that speak of Christ's goodness. Cost is $30.00. Childcare is available. Highline presents the Women's video Bible study, "Breaking Free" by Beth Moore.

The Beth Moore video series is a 10 week Bible Study that will lead us through Scripture to discover the transforming power of freedom in Jesus Christ. Themes for this study come from Isaiah, a book about the captivity of God's children, the faithfulness of God, and the road to freedom. It draws parallels between the captive Israelites of the Old Testament and New Testament believers in Jesus as the Promised Messiah. Workbooks will be available for purchase so that you can prepare at home for each week's lesson. The study will be moderated by Barb Tallant. My "Daily Bible" text today was "Give thanks..." My comments were on the theme of gratitude. Have you ever been grateful for paying taxes? In 1966, George Harrison wrote the song, "Taxman" in which part of lyrics included the words, "If 5% appears too small...be grateful I don't take it all...I'm the Taxman."

Sunday, I'll give you the story behind the lyrics as we look at the Taxman who became one of Jesus' disciples. Most of us don't find paying taxes a particularly pleasant experience. People in Judea hated their tax collectors. They considered them traitors. A good Jew would never talk or eat with a tax collector. But, Jesus invited one to be his disciple and spent the evening at a dinner party at the tax collector's house!

Thanks to the Brunch Bunch for an awesome family meal last week. We are grateful for all your efforts to give us a chance to share a meal together and build our community. This week at Highline we won't be having a physical meal together, but we will be sharing some soul food! I'll update you on the results of our survey about the move and recent developments about the opportunity.
