Sunday at Highline
Happy New Year! Did you know that this Sunday is the first day of the Christian liturgical calendar? Since we are not very liturgical you might not be aware of this fact. Sunday is the beginning of Advent, and Advent is the first “sacred season” of the Christian year. It is a time leading up to our celebration of the birth of Christ. It has very little to do with “Black Friday”. Although, I confess, I bought my first Christmas presents online today. I even bought one of my own presents for Ali to give me. I decided not to tell her what it is so that when I open it she can be surprised, since I won’t be! Sort of a new twist on the whole gift-giving thing.
This Sunday, as we mark the beginning of Advent, we will be continuing our Story by seeing how Paul gets back to Jerusalem and what happens when he arrives. Our goal will be to get Paul to Rome by Christmas! That will allow us to kick off the New Year by beginning the final piece of the Big Story – The Story of the Future; as revealed in the last book of the Bible: Revelation.
Sunday is also a communion Sunday. We will share the symbolic bread and cup together, remembering Jesus’ sacrifice for us…and his coming again! And of course, we will worship together under Biff’s leadership, and enjoy our fellowship together.
Thanks for all your prayers in our family’s medical emergency. Baker is still in the hospital, but doing much better and hopefully will be able to come home in the next few days. As we will see on Sunday, sometimes life just gets hard. Paul certainly knew this from the many difficulties he encountered - even as he was in the dead center of God’s will.
I look forward to seeing you all Sunday. And if you haven’t been around for a while…come celebrate “New Year’s” with us. Looks like it is going to be a beautiful morning.
Hope to see you Sunday,
Love to all,
